MCA #2 | Thursday Afternoon

Silver and Rey were going to try cooking lessons again. Well, they were moving on to baking this time. He thought it ended well the last time but when it came down to it he actually hadn't learned anything about cooking. Hopefully this time will end up better on the learning front.

How hard could it be to bake some chocolate chip cookies, really. Children do it on TV commercials all the time.

"There's a lot of measurements on here."

It should be.

"I think," she said slowly, unsure, "it heats it up so you get cookies faster."

No, but okay. She was not an expert.

"Oh. That makes sense," he said. "Also explains why my frozen pizzas are sometimes raw in the middle."

Rey frowned at him. "How long are you leaving them in there?"

Because raw didn't seem great.

"Not long enough evidently." He got hungry, okay?

"Okay, well for this, we're going to go by what the recipe says," Rey decided. "And we set the oven to 375 and line a baking sheet with parchment paper?"

She did not have parchment paper. What.

"I do not have that," he said, frowning. "Why would I want paper on my cookies?"

"It might keep it from sticking? But I think cooking spray works for that," Rey shrugged.

"And you do have that, correct?" Again, he did not.

[thatwaslucky]

"I came prepared," she said, picking up the can and handing it to him. "Shake it and spray the sheet."

"That I can manage," he said, taking the can. "I couldn't help but notice these cookies don't have fun sprinkles."

"Did you want fun sprinkles?" Rey smiled.

[long_memory]

"Would it ruin everything if we added some?" he asked.

[thatwaslucky]

"I don't think it'd be possible to ruin anything with sprinkles," Rey told him. "I do have to get them from my pantry, though."

[long_memory]

"Good thing it's not that far away," he said, leaning in for a kiss. "I can use the cooking spray without adult supervision."

[thatwaslucky]

"I'm trusting you," she teased, giving him another kiss. "Back in a minute."

[long_memory]

"I'll be waiting." Silver did managed to grease the pan without starting a fire, though he might have gone a little light on the spray. Oh well, they'd figure that out later when the cookies got stuck.

When Rey returned a couple minutes later, she was holding two bottles of sprinkles. "I only have red and green. I hope it's okay if they look like Christmas."

"Sprinkles are sprinkles as far as I'm concerned." He made a dramatic flourish at the newly greased pans. "Ta-da. No fires."

"I'm so proud," Rey laughed. "From here on out, everything's easy."

Liiiiies.

Silver gave her a look. "Somehow I don't believe that."

They hadn't even used the measuring cups yet!

She believed in him! Even after the raw pizza thing!

"It's pouring and stirring," Rey told him. "Like we need three cups flour. That's easy."

"Do you want to measure it out or shall I?" he asked. "Do you trust me with it?"

[thatwaslucky]

"I absolutely trust you to measure it," she told him, though she did hand him the correct measuring cup.

[long_memory]

That was probably a wise decision.

"Brave of you," he joked, taking the cup. He did measure out everything properly, leveling it out and everything without having to be told to.

He did get some flour on his hands by the time he had finished, which he flicked over at Rey. Lovingly.

"That is not where flour goes," she told him, laughing.
