Silver and Rey were going to try cooking lessons again. Well, they were moving on to baking this time. He thought it ended well the last time but when it came down to it he actually hadn't learned anything about cooking. Hopefully this time will end up better on the learning front.

How hard could it be to bake some chocolate chip cookies, really. Children do it on TV commercials all the time.

"There's a lot of measurements on here."

"Who are we to argue with the recipe?" he said, shrugging back at her. "It's probably been handed down through generations."

Or, you know. It was from some mommyblog from someone who cut her children's sandwiches into fun shapes.

"I don't think Epicurious has been around for generations," she smiled, reaching over to finally wipe the flour off his nose.

"I might have wanted that there," he said with a smile.

"I can put it back," she offered. "I can even put more."

"You put enough on me you could see what I'm going to look like when I'm old," he said. "But the clean up would be a nightmare."

It would turn into glue.

"I do not want to clean that up," Rey admitted. "Though I bet you'd still be good-looking when you're old."

"You think?" he asked. "Even if I have a ton of wrinkles?"

It was pretty likely since nobody used sunscreen back in the day.

"I don't see why wrinkles would matter." Of course she couldn't, that was what she'd seen on Jakku.

"It matters to some people," he said, going for the sugar. "But it's reassuring that you are not one of them."

"I'm not dating you for your looks anyway," Rey told him. "It's just a plus."

Silver leaned for a kiss. "You're sweet."

"Well, I like you," she told him, kissing him back.

"Now I'm less nervous about messing these cookies up," he said lightly. "Since I'm sure you'll like me anyway."

"If you give me food poisoning we're going to have a talk," she teased. "But I won't let that happen."

"Well so far it looks like it's hard to get food poisoning from any of the ingredients we've put in." That's because they had only gotten to the dry ingredients.

"It's because we're not going very fast. There are eggs involved," she said.

[long_memory]

"Ah, that's where the food poisoning comes in." Possibly. If they somehow made a huge mistake. "You sure you just don't want to buy some cookies?"

"I'm not worried," she told him. "Unless you don't want to make them."

[long_memory]

"I want to eat them," he said with a laugh. "So I guess the faster we make them the faster we can get to that."

"All right, we can do this," Rey grinned. "We can mix the dry ingredients."

[long_memory]

"I think I can handle that," he said with a grin. "Unless I drop the bowl but I'll do my very best not to."

"If you drop it you get to sweep it up," Rey told him lightly, like it wasn't technically his apartment. "And once you do that, we can beat the butter and sugars with an electric mixer... I do not have that."

"And you think I would have that?" he asked.

This was why you always read the recipe all the way through before starting, people.

"No, but I have a whisk. That'll work too," she told him. "Just more work."

"Let's do that then," he said. "Maybe it'll be one of those things where it's better because you worked hard for it?"

Even he knew that was bullshit, but he could pretend to have optimism sometimes.
