Due to the insanity of the last week or so and the lack of magical fireplaces, Silver hadn't been able to make good on his romantic Christmas date with Rey. The yule log channel wasn't exactly the same as an actual fireplace but it was the best they could do without setting the building on fire.

There was also a distinct lack of Christmas decorations. Didn't want to risk anything coming to life and killing them.

"It's very odd there's just one channel dedicated to a yule log."

"Good," he said, leaning in to kiss her temple. "But we do have a fake fire and it's...very fake, but nice."

"Maybe at some point we can get a real one," she said. "I don't know how, and hopefully we don't have to wait a year."

"We'll find a way to make it work," he said. "Hopefully without lighting any buildings on fire."

At least they knew the fire alarms worked.

"That would be extreme," Rey laughed. "And we couldn't stay long in that case."

"It would be a memorable date at least," he said, laughing.

"And it backfires if we do that in winter and have to go outside," she said.

"Oh that would be terrible," Silver said. "I've already had enough of this cold nonsense."

"It hasn't even been as bad as it could be," Rey warned, like she wasn't a cold wimp herself.

"Are you trying to scare me?" he joked.

[thatwaslucky]

"I'm giving you something to be grateful for," Rey said, kissing his cheek. "And if it was terrible, we could just stay in."

Oh darn.

"And what would we do while we were staying in avoiding the terrible weather?" he asked.

"Keep each other company," Rey said, moving to kiss his neck because she could. "We're pretty good at that."

"It is a talent we share," he agreed, tilting his neck to get more of that, yes please.

"Maybe we should pretend it's terrible out there, too," she said, moving a little lower.

There'd been a lot of snow, it did have to be pretty slushy out there.

"I think I can manage that," he said. "You know if you were in my lap we could conserve more heat."

"That is a very good point," Rey said, getting up for a moment to situate herself in his lap. "Better?"

"Much better," Silver said, wrapping his arms around her waist. "I'm warmer already."

"Does this help, too?" she asked, leaning in to kiss him.

[long_memory]

That helped a lot, actually. And even if it didn't help keep him warm he would have kept on doing it anyway. He tightened his arms around Rey just in case she had any idea about leaving.

She did get the point about that, yes. And she was happy to stay right here, sliding her arms around his neck to pull herself closer, in fact.

"Is this what you imagined from a fireplace date?" Silver murmured, nipping at her jaw.

"I figured we'd get here eventually," Rey said with a soft sigh. "Fires are only interesting to watch for so long."

"Fake ones even more so," he said, sliding his hands up her back.

"Really, this can help us pretend it's not fake," she told him, dipping her head to give his neck some more attention.

"Again with the good ideas," he murmured, curling one of his hands around the back of her neck to keep encouraging that. The other hand went under her shirt to run his fingers over her waist.
