Silver had heard enough radio to know something strange was happening again, and this one made him even more thankful to be overlooked by the island. He would have rather been a pony than a teenager again. Even the thought of what he was like back then was enough to put him in a pensive mood and he had taken to sitting on the couch with a glass of rum, not really watching what he had put on TV. Which was unfortunate because he would have enjoyed Kitchen Nightmares.

After two days of hanging out with teenagers, curiosity finally got the best of Rey, which had her leaving her place to knock on Silver's door.

Even though Silver had a pretty good guess at the door there was a distinct look of relief on his face when he opened the door and saw Rey. "Hello. I was hoping it was you."

"You were?" she asked, even though that was nice to hear.

"Of course. I always hope it's you," Silver said with a smile. He pulled the door open wider and moved to allow Rey to come in.

Behold, his mermaid furniture oasis.

Rey honestly loved it.

She stepped inside, smiling as she asked, "We're you expecting someone else?" Because she'd caught that relief.

"A pack of teenagers, maybe," Silver said. "I'm glad you're you."

"Me, too." Though it helped that she'd been a teenager as recently as July, and she really only would have been quieter and more prone to beating people with sticks. "I absolutely wanted to see if you were still you."

"This island has been kind to me for the most part," he said, moving to sit down on the couch. "Aside from the cowboy thing which really wasn't that bad."

"And that was mostly my fault anyway," Rey admitted, taking a seat next to him. Fandom just added an extra spin.

"So I guess that means the fairy princess thing was my fault," he said, smiling. You could see how much he regretted it, clearly.

"Definitely your fault. But I did save a bat," she pointed out.

Silver chuckled, moving closer so he could put an arm around Rey's shoulders. "I love how you still managed to be a hero even in a poofy pink dress."

"I still don't know that I'm okay with that word," Rey admitted, taking this as an excuse to snuggle closer to him.

"What's wrong with hero?" he asked.

[thatwaslucky]

"I'm learning that people put a lot of stock in that word," she explained. "And then they start looking at you differently just for doing the right thing."

"It is a lot of pressure, isn't it?" he said. "I won't use it anymore, I promise."

"You're fine. It's not offensive or anything," she assured him. "It's a loaded question when one of my friends as a teenager asks me if I'm a hero in the middle of, um, fangirling."

"That's a bit awkward. What did you say?" he asked.

[thatwaslucky]

"No," she said with a shrug.

[long_memory]

"Simple, I like it," he said, leaning in to press a kiss against her temple. "Did you speak to a lot of the teenagers?"

"Annie, Summer and Liam. Master Skywalker," she said, grinning. "I'm a little sorry I couldn't see you at that age."

Silver's responding smile didn't quite reach his eyes. "It would have been nothing interesting, trust me."

"You think?"

She noticed that smile, and figured he could fill in his own answer there.

"I know," he said, nuzzling against her neck. "Utterly unremarkable."

"I cannot believe that you could ever be unremarkable," she told him, but she was completely fine with him doing that, thank you.

"Are you flirting with me?" He would try to charm his way out of this subject matter, don't you think he wouldn't.

"I'm pretty much always flirting with you a little," Rey pointed out. She could be honest about that now.

"Always?" he repeated, teasing. "Really?"

[thatwaslucky]

"Pretty much. Even when you're distracting me." Which was fine, and she'd let him.

"I enjoy distracting you," he said. "I could stop if you'd like."

"I mean, if you really enjoy it..."

And if that's how he got out of talking about stuff, well, she knew that now.

"I do," he said, leaning in to kiss her neck. "Thank you for indulging me."

"Anytime," she said, tilting her head to give him room. "Glad to do this favor."

Well Silver decided to show his gratitude by not stopping what he was doing, placing a hand on Rey's thigh for stability purposes. And touching purposes.

Tom Nook probably did not intend for the mermaid furniture to be used for this purpose.

What better way to teat how sturdy a build was when it was completed in five seconds at a tree trunk.

"Oh, we're going full distraction, are we?" she asked.

"Is it working?" he asked.

[thatwaslucky]

"Mostly. I can still formulate questions, though," she told him.

[long_memory]

"I can fix that," Silver said before leaning in to kiss her.
