Reclaiming Your Childhood, Tuesday, Period [11/25]

Today, students had been handwavily summoned to the kitchen area of the cafeteria, where they would find both Ghanima and Trebor waiting for them, and supply stations set-up in the space.

Trebor, for his part, seemed very happy to be back with his mother.

"Holidays often involve baking," Ghanima began cheerfully, Trebor perched on her hip as she held him in one place with one arm. "Many people have fond memories of baking with family when they are young... or the movies have lied to me again."

"Today, we have two baking options: Peanut Butter Blossoms, which I have been informed are fairly easy to make, and a slightly more complex option, the Linzer cookies."

"Even -- especially -- if you do not celebrate any of the upcoming holidays, everyone deserves something sweet."

She gestured with her free hand to the pile of aprons laying on one table, grinning. "Chefs, grab your armor! I have been assured that the cafeteria has faced far more fearsome foes than us, so let's get cooking."

Fandom Radio, Tuesday, November 25th

What up, Fandom? It's me, ya girl Arden Finch, here with the all the best gossip from yesterday, delivered straight to your listening ears. I gotta run from here and continue my packing before I head out for the holidays, so let's get this going!

School! We had it! Cryptozoology talked about a spectral cat from the English moors! How To Not Drown once again used 'tactical floating noodles'! That's never a sentence that will be normal to say!

No Dorms! But Town! And I'm actually pretty tired of exclaiming everything. Huh, that took energy, who knew? Anyway, at Pick Your Poison, Dr. Isley was checking out the stock of shampoos, and at Infinite Consortium, Professor Vess was making plans for later that evening. Raiden was having stressful phone calls about the holiday at Pizza Planet - of course I'm coming home for the holidays, Ray! - and Professor James Stark was just having a stressful day at the Clinic because of random screams coming from the back room? That's horrifying, no thank you. And later, Professor Vess's plans came to fruition at the park, where a group of people settled in to watch the Miss Universe pageant. Or just the National Costume portion? Of course Mr. Scientia was there and they made a bet and discussed stakes, and Lydia was also there looking fabulous in a new cape. Oooh, can't wait to see it, Lydia! Billie didn't know what was happening, but was happy to get into the spirit of things. Mr. Argentum showed up with Little Miss, who was very excited about sparkles. Dr. Lecter showed up with homemade popcorn, and Professor Sims showed up with a belated birthday present. Dr. Isley explained fossil fuels to Professor Vess. Mr. Gregorith, Luma, and Eleanor rounded out the watch party. Sounds like fun!

And that's it for my notes, so this is ya girl, Arden Finch, signing off for the holidays. Have a great rest of your week, Fandom, and enjoy Nikki Vianna's Mambo. Bye!

Dealing With Other People's Trauma, Tuesday 11/25

“There's a holiday coming up this week,” Stark said. “On Thursday. One that is often spent with families. Some of us don't have families. Others might have difficult families. Others may have trauma about holidays or families or both. So this time of year when there are so many celebrations where people focus on families can be very hard.”

“I made cranberry cupcakes,” he added. “If anyone would like one. Or more than one. That's fine.”

“So, sometimes the holidays are hard because you have no family. Nowhere to go. Maybe you used to have somewhere or used to have family and don't any longer. Or maybe…maybe you were able to be with someone else's family before but that's not possible at this time. Maybe you just can't go home right now. Or ever, maybe. There are many reasons for all of those things.”

“So…are any of you celebrating? I'm not, this year, as far as I know. It's not my holiday but I do enjoy the food. But then none of the holidays here are really mine at all, really. Which can be hard. But I borrow some of them.”

Stark paused then, looking at the cupcakes contemplatively for a long moment.

“It you know someone who has trouble with holidays, are there ways to help, do you think? Invite them to share yours if you celebrate? Do something unrelated together? Simply express that you know things are hard? Try to help them some other way? Take them away somewhere? And what if they have trouble with family? Do you…share your family?”

Stark wasn't sure what the right answer was for him, even, but it could make for a good discussion. Maybe.

"This holiday is about being thankful. At least in part. Maybe one of the best ways to help someone would be simply letting them know you're thankful they are in your life?"

"It is the most wonderful time of year," Anakin intoned, poking at a Santa hat with barely concealed disdain. "The time when people go shopping and lose their entire kriffing minds."

"A time when the idea of saving a few credits overrides not only good sense, but any consideration they possess for others. Especially others they view as lesser." For example, people working in service roles.

"So you will be working the customer service desk," Anakin said. "Where you will not murder anyone, Flint."

"While staying within the uniform policy." Ahsoka had not picked the uniform.

"It will be fun." Mostly for the teachers.

"I realize this is a bit you're doing," Lucifer informed Tiny, "But I refuse to entertain it."

Tiny crossed his arms and remained standing in front of his Christmas tree.

"Well, don't come crying to me if Eric eats you," Lucifer sighed, and went back behind the bar to pick-- hm. How about a purple cocktail night? Yes.

Anyone entering the bar would find all purple bottles sitting on the bar. And some police tape around the tree.

Tino seemed pumped for Wednesday, the day that everyone would pile into the bar for the night before Thanksgiving, to escape the family they were visiting.

"That doesn't happen here," Kitty said. "That's never happened the entire time I've worked here, at least not for that purpose."

Great. Now she'd crushed his dreams.

Fandom Clinic, Monday 11/24

There were screams coming from one of the exam rooms.

Stark was alarmed by said screams when he arrived with the day's coffees for himself and the nurses but one nurse quickly reassured him that there were no patients in there screaming. "It's empty. No idea what's causing it. And we checked for speakers. Nothing. And Stabby hasn't been anywhere near there."

Stark sighed. "Do we have a ghost? Should I go and check?"

"I'm pretty sure it's the table."

"Tables don't scream."

"Stark." The nurse gave him a disappointed look. "Remember where you live. "

The clinic was open, the crab was probably not responsible for the screams, and the alien was in.

Try Not To Drown, Monday, November 24

Anakin and Steve were in front of the swimming pool again, glad to see everyone in their proper shapes and sizes, assuming no one had become an animal over the weekend.

"Hello," Anakin said with a smile. "We're back to the tactical floating noodles."

Steve nodded in approval. "Today we will continue to work on your arms for the butterfly stroke. It should look less like you're trying to avoid drowning and more like something you mean to be doing," he added. "Down the length of the pool and back. Focus on precision, not speed. If your shoulders are screaming at you, you're doing it right."

Cryptozoology, Monday period 2

"Today's cryptid is from a bit closer to home," Jon said. "Well, closer to my home, that is. The Beast of Bodmin Moor supposedly hails from Cornwall, to the southwest of England. It's reputed to be a large, black cat, possibly spectral, possibly real, possibly with glowing eyes. There are upwards of fifty reported sightings, as well as some photographs and video that show a cat several feet long."

He frowned. "There was also a leopard skull found, but it was later determined to have been imported as part of a rug. Which is a different sort of abomination. In the nineties, the government ordered a study which eventually determined there was no evidence of large cats living on the moor, although they were careful to say they couldn't prove they didn't live there, either. Which is probably because you can't prove a negative.

"Various theories include a supernatural cat spirit that guards the moors, elusive native cats that never went extinct as they were thought to have, escaped panthers people were keeping as pets, and large housecats combined with vivid imaginations."

Movies (Sorta) In The Park, The Park, Monday Evening

By that evening, the power of phone calls (and an absurd amount of money), became fully evident. Scattered around the screen were a number of high-end, luxury beanbag chairs (two concepts you never would have put together, huh?) just waiting to be claimed. Some were normal beanbag chairs, some were huge, with plenty of room to share, sprawl, or even fully recline. There were some that offered a bit more support, including ottomans to rest your feet upon. She'd even included smaller ones in case people brought their pets or children or whatever. Obviously, each chair had its own pile of fluffy blankets for people to wrap around themselves, and there were portable braziers scattered about, with a variety of moddable b/c I'm already tired of grabbing links on mobile cozy beverages and snacks placed on the ledges surrounding then to keep them from warm.

Was it a little overkill, especially when it wasn't even below freezing yet? Yes. But when wasn't Liliana extravagant? Especially when it came to mitigating her own discomfort.

Which was why she was curled up in one of the larger beanbags (purple, obviously), already under several blankets, sipping on mulled cider and nibbling on mini apple crisp cheesecakes while waiting for the pageant to begin. From what she has gathered, this batch of National Costumes had gone all out.

But surely nothing could beat the lizard costume, right? Nothing.

[Open to everybody! You can mod a message from Liliana, or have your character wandering through the park, or heard about it from someone else, or however you wanna say your character heard about Petty Bitch Brigade meeting in the park!]

Not a lot of news. Gregorith got invested in the Miss Universe costumes at the museum. Octavia was having a thoughtful morning on the Cape Rouge, and Rey was being tortured with holiday music at Stark's. Yeah. Tis the season for that.

And that's it. Till next week.

Raiden was spending a lot of time on the phone today.

"Tell me you already took the turkey out of the freezer. In fact, tell me you took the turkey out of the refrigerator on Friday."

"We bought ham for Arden, right? I assume she is. I haven't asked her. Shit, I should ask her. Look, buy the ham anyway."

"What do you mean none of the grocery stores in Echo Bay have brussels sprouts?"

"No, we need both kinds of cranberry sauce. Because Daman and Galen will fight, is why. And yes, I do need all of that cheese, do you hear yourself talking? I always need all of that cheese."

Running Thanksgiving from the opposite coast was stressful, it turned out. Maybe next year he made his whole family come to him.

Meme: Reverse Questions with a Twist

It's gonna be a super quiet week and I don't wanna. We last did this in August but I have a weird amount of new questions, so babble at me.

Pose a question (or as many as you'd like, and they don't all have to be in one comment, so you can come back later and add more if you want) to your fellow players about the game or their characters, and they will Wall-of-Text if they want to, look, I know how some of you are answer them. They can be personal or silly. You don't have to answer all of them! Nothing counts in game, of course and etc.

Questions might include "Which of your characters are you the most like?", "Which BDE was your favorite?", "What music do you RP to?", etc.

Check in throughout the day to add questions/answer questions that have been added! And be nice, as always.

There was still an unopened crate in her shop and it was just going to have to stay unopened for another week. Radio had mentioned something about the Miss Universe National Costumes and after a brief scroll on her phone to confirm it was exactly like the last National Costumes contest she'd watched, she had immediately decided to host another viewing party. The Petty Bitches Brigade would rise again!

And how could she consider something like 'work' or 'her job' when she was putting together an outdoor viewing party that would stand up to November nights?

Dark skies and the threat of rain. Fall was a time of change, of preparing for death so that rebirth could come when the sun rose higher again. Pam had always liked it; it often suited the tense swings of her mood.

Not today, though. She found herself glancing outside occasionally as she went through the shop checking the inventory, and every time she thought: this is too somber for me now. She'd risen from the death already, and her very being ached for spring.

But alas, she was still too human to sleep until her time. And so with a melancholic sigh, she moved on to the shampoos.

Once in a while, music came from just... somewhere, and Rey couldn't do anything about it. She was used to it. She didn't even mind that today's mystery music was Christmas music. Places had been playing that since November 1, it was fine.

It was the fact that it was the same three songs and one was Feliz Navidad and the repetition was driving her up the wall when she had hours left to go hearing it.

It was fine. Totally fine. Been through worse, etc.

The Deck of the Cape Rouge, Sunday Morning

Octavia wasn't great at sleeping in. Just in general, unless she was exhausted. Something about all those years on the Ark, and down on the ground, and down in the bunker - the much stricter schedule of living in a close-knit community (or on the unseen edges of it) stuck to her, persistently, despite the years of sharing a boat with just two other people that had passed since any of that.

But it wasn't just the usual, this week.

Guess there was something about your kid's surly doppelgänger showing up at your work again that could make your brain a noisier place than usual. And that didn't make for great sleep.

But Sunday morning she'd tried, valiantly, to stay in bed. And it had worked for a little bit. But the thoughts just kept whirring around in a loop, and eventually she'd had to give in and get up. Heading outside after, onto the deck, was supposed to serve two purposes: not disturbing anyone still asleep on the Rouge, and hopefully letting the cool air soothe a little bit of her... whatever it was. Melancholy, maybe.

She also had a mug of hot chocolate, and was wrapped up in one of Duke's shapeless cardigans, far too big and thus actually perfect on her. Those were supposed to help, too, as she stood there facing away from the island, looking over the open water.

Thinking thoughts of family.

Fandom Museum Sunday November 23

Mortal geography was not Gregorith's best subject so he'd never even heard of some the countries represented in the Miss World...No, Miss Universe competition. (that somewhat confused him but he supposed that was something they'd have to work out when they met aliens) And even the ones he did know, he didn't understand the cultural significance of some of their costumes. But that didn't stop him from scrolling through the pictures, occasionally actually exclaiming,

"Oh cool!"

He was especially impressed with the headdresses. As someone with horns, who had occasionally endured "your neck muscles must be so strong!" from beings without them, he respected the poise it must take to wear such a thing.

And yeah he may be occasionally trying to sketch out a Fandom inspired headdress. Costume design wasn't his thing so who knew if he'd get it right.

The museum was open.

Good morning, everyone! It is I, Miss Lydia Bennet, here to bring you all the news of yesterday! As documented by the squirrels, of course, so if your particular news item has been misrepresented, do blame the rodents. Let's begin, shall we?

At the school, Driver's Education and Weather & Storms both watched films. Educational ones, I'm sure. I've no notes for the dormitory, the porg is sobbing, it's a whole scene, moving along to the town, where Mr. Henry of Skalitz was reviewing his finances at the forge. There was a Thanksgiving movie playing at the theatre, where Miss Faden stopped by and Mr. Barnes commented on her mode of dress. Compliments only, I hope. Miss Skywalker was struggling with the course at her warehouse, whilst at Needful Things Dr. Quinn took down the Halloween decorations--just in time to decorate for Christmas! Mr. Lucifer was providing musical entertainment at The Devil's Nest, and Mr. Gregorith, with the aid of technology, enjoyed a film with his friends back home...and that does appear to be the last of my notes. I could do with a bit more gossip, you know, squirrels. Something snappy.

*chittering*

Apparently, they do not take requests. Alas. Until next week, dear listeners, farewell!

Good morning, it's Steve--

*chittering*

I am not the wrong Steve, thank you, I'm just not the correct one for radio. Anyway, here's what happened yesterday. In classes, Belle was trying to figure out the card game the gremlins were playing in the library--

*chittering*

The squirrels say it wasn't strip poker. Steve and Tony were out of town, which explains why I here, Zombie Apocalypse was cancelled and I definitely don't wonder if she knows something the rest of us don't, and Food Adventures finished up learning how to make proper pizza in Rome. Danny approves. I'm sure it'd be better with pineapple.

*chittering*

I know it was invented in Canada. It's good in Hawaii, too.

In town, Thor was avoiding the Devil's Nest Christmas tree, Watts and Steven make plans to see an exhibit about accessibility in London, and Supper Club went out for pho because the weather's turning. Rey taught Henry about money so that he can also buy a cozy coat. Lydia's not excited about Thanksgiving, but that might just be because she's never played in the traditional football game.

*dubious chittering*

I'm pretty sure that's what she's missing. Okay, that's everything. Have a good one.

[OOC: You know what helps when you've written radio early? POSTING IT. Sorry, gang.]
